Visit to Bonn and Exercise!
Today we planned to visit the city of Bonn.
But on Saturday we all went to the park run in Düsseldorf – Volksgarten. It was in a park – ever so beautiful, I’m not much of a jogger so I walked. The air was very chilly, and it looked like rain clouds above, but it was enjoyable then off to have coffee at one of the many little coffee shops nearby. We have a relaxing day – all the markets we had visited in the few days was quite exhausting.
Oberkassel Christmas market: We did wonder around Oberkassel enjoying their mini-Christmas markets and tasting more German goodies, like Lebkuchen: A type of gingerbread cookie that is flavoured with honey, cinnamon and other spices and Stollen which is a type of fruit bread filled with raisins, candied fruit and nuts- both were delicious. Of course we had to have more Kartoffelpuffer: Also known locally as reibekuchen, these potato pancakes are fried until crispy and served with apple sauce.
Bonn- the cultural City of Germany
We spent most of Sunday in Bonn visiting some of the must-see attractions.
• Beethoven-Haus: The composer Ludwig van Beethoven was born and grew up in Bonn. His birthplace and childhood home has been kept as a museum full of invaluable memorabilia from his life. I enjoy his music, and we wondered into the shop across from his birthplace. Most enjoyable
• Bonn Minister: This is one of Germany’s oldest churches built in the 11th century over ruins of churches and temples that date from the Roman times. The square in front of Bonn Minster is the biggest in Bonn’s city Centre. Here is a statue of Beethoven, at the base of the monument are four allegorical representations of the types of music Beethoven composed. In Münster Platz where the Bonn Christmas market is also held. an enjoyable market to visit.
After a late lunch at an Italian restaurant.
• The largest Pizza: We stopped off at a lovely Italian restaurant for a late lunch, we had the largest pizza I’ve ever seen. One to share, and delicious.
Stay tuned into the last of my adventure in Germany, Cologne.
