Hello, Health enthusiasts!

Last week, I shared my “drinkie” recipe, and today I’m excited to delve deeper into the ingredients and their incredible benefits. Let’s start with one of my favourites: Cinnamon.

Cinnamon: A spice with History and Health Benfits

Description: Cinnamon is a spice derived from the inner bark of trees scientifically known as Cinnamomum. This aromatic spice has been cherished throughout history, particularly by the Ancient Egyptians, who used it extensively.

The process of making cinnamon begins with cutting the stems of cinnamon trees and extracting the inner bark. The woody parts are removed, and as the bark dries, it curls into strips known as cinnamon sticks. These sticks can be ground into a fine power that boasts a distinct aroma and flavour loved by many.

Health Benefits of Cinnamon

Cinnamon Sticks

  1. Rich in Antioxidants
Cinnamon is packed with powerful antioxidants, particularly polyphenols, which protect the body from oxidative damage cause by free radicals. Antioxidants play a crucial role in maintaining overall health and preventing various diseases.

  2. Anti- Inflammatory Properties
Thanks to its antioxidant content, cinnamon may have anti-inflammatory effects, helping to lower the risk of diseases caused by chronic inflammation. Including cinnamon in your diet could contribute to a healthier, inflammation-free lifestyle.

  3. Heart Health Protector
Some studies suggest that cinnamon may help protect against heart disease. Regular consumption as been linked to lower levels of triglycerides, LDL cholesterol (the “bad” cholesterol), and blood sugar - all of which are major risk factors for heart disease. By incorporating cinnamon into your daily routine, you may be able to support your cardiovascular health naturally.

  4. Supports Brain Health
Cinnamon has shown promise in supporting brain health and may have beneficial effects on neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s. Research suggest that compounds in cinnamon could help inhibit the buildup of a protein in the brain that is a hallmark of these diseases.

  5. Fights Infection
Cinnamon has antibacterial and antifungal properties, which can help protect against various infections. Regular intake of cinnamon may contribute to a stronger immune system, helping you fend off illness.

A Versatile Spice with Numerous Benefits

Cinnamon is not only delicious but also incredibly versatile, making it easy to incorporate into your diet. Whether you sprinkle it on your oatmeal, add it to your coffee, or use it in savoury dishes, and is a crucial addition in my “drinkie”. You can enjoy its delightful flavour and reap its many health benefits.

It’s a tasty way to boost your health!
